Austrade features ISG and the Puerto TGN milestone
Intermodal Solutions Group has featured in a profile by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission for its role in transforming the way bulk mineral concentrates move from mine to ship. The feature looks at the engineering behind ISG’s sealed container system and its rollout across Chile, Mexico, Peru, and India.
The centrepiece is Puerto TGN in Antofagasta, the world’s first fully automated copper concentrate export terminal, now operating with ISG containers and the patented lid-lifting system designed and engineered in Australia. Managing Director Garry Pinder talks through the operational shift this represents: zero product loss between mine site and vessel, no double-handling, and a sharp reduction in dust and contamination risks compared to traditional open-air port storage carriers.
The scale of the rollout points to where the industry is heading. ISG has 38,000 containers in operation worldwide, with 16,000 working across the Chilean copper industry, 3,000 supplied to ports across Mexico, and another 3,000 at Las Bambas in Peru, one of the largest copper projects on the planet.
For mining operations managers and port terminal teams deciding between containerised handling and conventional bulk methods, Austrade’s feature on the Puerto TGN installation gives a clear view of how the technology performs at full commercial scale.
